PaSS is a powerful automation tool, but it works in tandem with your Android system’s call settings. It is important to check these settings to ensure PaSS behaves as expected.
1. Your default Caller ID setting
PaSS can add an anonymity prefix (e.g., #31# in Europe/Asia, *67 in North America) when needed. For this to work correctly, you need to know what your phone’s default is.
The Recommended Setup: For most users, it is best to leave the Android setting as “Network default” or “Show number”.
- This means, by default, your number is shown.
- You then use PaSS to add the anonymity prefix to hide it only for specific contacts (like patients or clients) based on rules.
Where to find it (varies by device):
- Open your Phone app (the dialer).
- Tap the menu button (usually 3 dots top right) and select “Settings”.
- Look for “Calling accounts”, “More settings”, or “GSM call settings”.
- Tap “Caller ID” or “Show my number”.
- Here you can view the default behavior.
2. Dual SIM Settings (If applicable)
If you want PaSS to handle SIM card selection, you need to disable the Android system pop-up that asks “Which SIM to use?” every time you make a call. Otherwise, even if PaSS selects a SIM, the system will try to override it.
How to configure:
- Go to your phone’s main “Settings”.
- Go to “Network & Internet” or “SIM cards & mobile networks”.
- Look for the default SIM setting for “Calls” or “Voice calls”.
- Set this to a specific SIM (e.g., SIM 1) instead of “Always ask”.
Don’t worry: PaSS will automatically override this system default based on your rules. The setting here acts only as a fallback in case PaSS finds no matching rule.
3. Necessary Permissions
Upon installation, PaSS will request several permissions. These are essential for the app to function.
- Make and manage phone calls: Required to detect outgoing calls, modify the number, and select the SIM.
- Access your contacts: Required for rules like “If Contact Group is X” to work, to check which account or group a contact belongs to.
- Read call log (Optional): Only required if you use the “Use last used SIM” feature.
Privacy Focus: PaSS uses this data locally only. Your contacts and call logs are never sent off your phone.
